Meet Clarissa Louw: Manager of @Sandton Kids

The recently-opened @Sandton Kids is a creche for children between the ages of 4 months and 5 years that also offers child minder services for guests of @Sandton Hotel. We chatted to manager Clarissa Louw about joining the @Sandton Kids team, why she got involved in education, and why @Sandton Kids stands out from the crowd.

Please tell us how you got started in your career?

Ever since I can remember, I’ve really loved children. I started thinking about becoming a teacher when I helped my sister out during my holiday at the school she used to work. I started presenting lessons, marking books and looking after them, and once I finished school I immediately started studying Education. My passion for children is still ongoing.

What is your favourite part about educating this age group?

Seeing how children learn new skills and develop right in front of your eyes. It’s the best feeling in the world to teach a child something and see them do it themselves after a few tries – even if it’s just drinking out of a cup for the first time!

What do you think makes @Sandton Kids ‘stand out from the crowd’?

We enjoy getting creative while we work! @Sandton Kids focuses mainly on play, however while we’re playing, the children are learning without any pressure. We have great, healthy relationships with all kids that attend @Sandton Kids.

Why do you think that parents should choose @Sandton Kids for their children?

Parent involvement is a big focus for us. Before we opened the school we spent a lot of time thinking about how they can be involved in their child’s day and we decided on getting an app. The @Sandton Kids app lets them see what’s going on with the children, their bathroom routines, food menus, nappy changing and potty training schedules as well as how they are developing.
